2013 BaoHongYinJi Chawang YinXiang

This 357g cake goes for approx. $264 or $0.74/g. I got this one free with my last order for review.

Dry leaves smell of bready odours.

First infusion has a bready flat watery sugar note. Slight mild sweet fruity appears minutes later.

Second infusion has a woody warm spice onset. The mouthfeeling has a full mild tightness.  There is a lingering licorice finish that develops under the initial tastes and is more prominent in the aftertaste.  Minutes later there is a pop of sweet fruity tastes that seems to be generated in the stimulated throat.

Thrid infusion has a perfume floral medicinal pungent honey onset.  There is a thicker texture and honey licorice finish.  Interesting and unique taste profile that reminds me a bit of Lincang area.  Flat full fine sandy mouthfeeling with open throat.  Gentle Qi in the body and mind.

Fourth infusion has a woody licorice spice onset with an oily texture and even slightly salty nuance.  There is a honey licorice finish to it with some lingering sweetness and subtle perfume tastes.  Unique tasting.  Qi is mild focusing.

Fifth infusion has a bitter cherry fruity honey licorice pop of bitter-sweetness.  The bitterness is mild and very fast moving and the sweet taste is quite long.  A bit fruity, a bit perfume, and a bit licorice-honey aftertaste lingers for minutes.

6th is left to cool it gives off this delicious creamy pastry very sweet taste with layers of honey. There is a cooling pungent wave and long sweet licorice finish.  Nice calming Qi experience with a bit of chest opening.

7th infusion has a spicy creamy licorice almost perfume taste.  Nice pudding texture with long cooling pungent and sweet licorice honey. Calming Qi.

8th is left to cool and gives off a sweet perfume herbal onset with a long cooling aftertaste and sweet almost perfume finish.  Calm Qi is mild soft Qi sensations in the limbs and chest.

9th has a mild soapy floral perfume onset with an oily texture and long cooling with floral and pastry sort of sweetness.  There is an underlying very mild bitter herbs taste that sort of sits on the tongue after the aftertaste recedes.  It lays in the flat slight tight mouthfeeling that sits mainly on the tongue.  The cooling breath goes down the throat.

10th infusion has a woody herbal floral perfume bland almost bitter taste onset.  The mouthfeeling is drier flat sandy faint puckering.  The Qi is really calm, mild and focusing.

11th has a bitter woody floral taste with strong mouthfeeling slight dry puckering.  Strong building Qi in the chest and limbs with relaxed shoulders.

The mugs steepings give give off a nice oily clear sweet faint fruity/perfume and coco finish.  Still really tasty and smooth.

Nice Gushu tea with strong gentle Qi and bodyfeeling.  Tastes like Lincang to me.  Qi really builds in the body and mind and that is what I like most about this one.

BHYJ Intro: A Good 2014 BaoHongYinJi Chun Yue Xiang Chun Lin

I have been curious about the Boutique Puerh brand BaoHongYinJi for quite some time now.  It is famous for both its earlier Wanggong productions as well as their partnership with Wistaria Teahouse and their joint production specifically the 2013 BHYJ/Wistaria Tea House Zhenren Yufeng.  I have never tried any of their productions before so it will be fun to review a few here and get to know the brand…

I got this sample free for review but it goes for approx. $445.00 for 357 g cake or $1.25/g.

Dry leaves smell of florals and sweet creamy woody odours.

First infusion has a floral woody sweet taste. There is this faint long floral candy finish.  Light mouthfeeling but long breath sweet finish.

Second infusion has a woody fruity-floral onset with a long creamy floral taste.  Lots of long floral fruity creamy sweet taste in a soft mild chalky mouthfeeling.  Nice Chest expanding feeling.  I like the floral-sweet finish.

The third infusion has a woody almost sour onset that returns as creamy woody floral sweetness. The mouthfeeling develops a mild gripping that reaches down the throat.  The cooled down cup has a creamy sweet floral woody long taste that stretches into the aftertaste.

The fourth infusion has a creamy woody onset with a long creamy floral taste.  The mouthfeeling has a mild gripping but a soft mild chalky texture. Qi has a chest expanding that leads to deep breathing and relaxing feeling.

The 5th has a woody sweet onset with an almost licorice and creamy floral finish.  Mild mossy mouthfeelnig and opening throatfeeling with some faint coolness and creamy floral long aftertaste with nice chest opening feeling.  There is a subtle dry sticky feeling on the lips and roof of mouth.

6th has a fruity almost medicinal onset with slightly woody tastes.  The woody almost pear with floral crteamy and woody resin tastes.  Mild sandy mouthfeeling with subtle throat gripping and long sweet faint fruity floral finish.

7th has a woody creamy almost but not really resin fruity floral sort of tastes.  The mouthfeeling is more chalky sandy gripping.  There is a long creamy fruity faint resin finish.

8th has a woody fruity taste with a woody fruity aftertaste.  Its becoming pretty simple now.  The mouthfeeling and throatfeeling have a sandy mild griping. Nice chest expanding and calming feeling.

9th woody watery watery fruity with a sandy dry mouthfeeling.  Long fruity aftertaste in the sandy drying mouth and throat.  Chest opening Qi with calming feeling.

10th is even more watery with a woody fruity taste and sandy slight dry mouthfeeling. Chest opening calm and relaxed vibes.

Overall, this is a pretty enjoyable standard Xiang Chun Lin experience- a bit better than most of the Xiang Chun Lin puerh I’ve tired but not overly so.   It’s a few years older than other Xiang Chun Lin area puerh I’ve had and earlier than the trend towards this area.  Floral sweet with nice calming chest opening Qi and mild mouthfeeling.  I like this area and this has to be one of the best I have tried.  Thanks Paolo for sending this one!

Mr. Chen’s Old Tea Selection Part 2

The description says this could be 70s-90s material and I agree.  I think I might peg these at 80s material and it’s interesting to compare to the 80s Village Liubao from TeasWeLike I sampled blindly.  The village Liubao being a bit better quality and value but I’m not really a big fan of Huangpian which this brick is.  For lovers of Huangpian you should really give this a try as it has really clear storage on it.  I enjoyed it.  This brick goes for approx $234.00 for 250g brick or $0.94/g.  I received this as a free sample for review…

Dry leaf smell like old dry shu puerh stale dry leaves and faint incense smoke.

First infusion has a light sweet water almost plum fruit taste with lesser fallen leaf.  Dry gripping mouthfeel.  Subtle cooling. No shu processing here.

Second has a sweet fruity onset with a creamy almost tropical fruit chalky taste.  Really tasty and sweet. Almost a pastry sweetness.  Dry gripping mouthfeel.  Taste is up front with a lingering fruit finish.  Mild Qi feeling of relaxing.  More obvious Huang Pian leaves profile.

3rd has an incense woody plum perfume taste to it.  Mild dry coating.  Some sweet fruits are hard to grasp now.

4th is left to cool and gives off light incense notes and subtle plum and almost tropical fruit in a kind of pastry chalky sweetness.  Mild relaxing qi.

5th has a watery woody onset with faint incense and plum.  Mouthfeel is a mild dryness.  Mild warming and relaxing Qi.

6th has a plum woody incense onset over a slightly dry mouthfeel.  Mild warming and relaxing energy.

7th is a watery woody some rich woody taste.  There is some faint incense and the mouthfeel is a mossy full feeling.

8th has a watery faint woody plum taste.  Mossy slight drying mouthfeel.

1990s Mr.Chen’s Senh-ly Airplane

A 357 g cake goes for approx $ 332.00 or $0.93/g.  I received this sample free for review.  Puerh.uk states in the description that this has Natural Taiwanese storage unlike the other dry stored samples previously reviewed from Mr. Chen’s selection.  I’m supposed by that because my same looks, smells, and tastes dry stored…

Mix of many tippy furry dry leaves smells of creamy sweetness and plum odour.  Tips still looking pretty white and hairy.

First infusion has a brassy creamy sweet taste that reminds me immediately of Northern Puerh.  There is a creamy almost caramel licorice taste.  Tippy light and salivating.  Wet mouthfeel with mossy finish.

Second is left to cool and is a creamy brassy copper with a sweet almost melon caramel sweetness.  Too me tastes younger than 90s.

Third infusion has a bitter almost sour caramel taste.  There is a brassy copper taste.  Mild qi experience with a soft gaze and subtle floating feeling in the body.

Fourth has a sour, peach pear onset with a creamy caramel sweetness.  Mossy sticky mouthfeel.  Sour taste is getting stronger.  Definitely Northern puerh Simiao or Menghai doesn’t taste like 90s tea - still too young.

5th has a sour almost soapy taste with a creamy sour peach pear taste.  Nice five flavours taste with sweet, sour, salty, bitter and bland in there.  Deeper qi feeling of subtle floating and relaxing.

6th has a sour soapy bitter less sweet fruity taste now.  Subtle floating qi with some spacing out.  Mossy sticky mouth and thoat feeling.

7th sour strong bitter slight salty and sweet. Bitter and sour more than sweet now.

8th watery woody brassy salty finish in the mouth. Salty woody finish with faint cooling and sweet.

This puerh has decent stamina and can still go a bit longer…

Overall Light clear profile of Northern puerh (maybe Simiao region)with deeper qi sensations like floating and deeper relaxation.  Five flavours taste and lots of clarity from the dry storage .  Hard time finding anyone that would blind guess this to be as old as 90s.  I guess my own storage would be dry enough to do the same.

Mr Chen’s Old Tea Selection by Puerh.uk

I think it’s cool that Puerh.uk has offered a bunch of 90s aged cakes from a single collector’s home dry storage.  I really enjoyed exploring the dry storage of Old Man and his ChenYuan Hao cakes that Puerh.uk had available.  I picked up a few samples to explore Mr.Chen’s home storage.  I had a few days this week to finally get in some sessions- it has been a few months.  I found that the Taiwanese dry storage was nice and gave the puerh a dry woody fallen leaf taste but also space to see the true character of the region of the material below are dry stored and clear examples of Yiwu and Manghai from the 90s…

1990s Mr.Chen’s “Tong Xing Hao”

A 357g cake goes for approx $383.00 or $1.07/g and is from Mr Chen’s own dry storage.

Dry leaf is pretty quiet. After the rise it has an woody fallen leaf oldish odours.

First is light sweet woody water.  Dry storage is more obvious here. Sweet edges and finish.

Second has a soft smooth velvety mouthfeel with water sweet woody broth.  Nice slightly oily texture with lots of space in the taste with a sweetness throughout.  Warming face and face qi. Quieting peaceful qi.

Third infusion has a really sweet and oily taste nice dry storage on here makes the sweetness shine.  It has a mild woody leaf in the background but mainly an almost caramel sweetness.  Nice warming face and chest qi.  There is some faint incense that disappears quickly but no smoke at all.

Fourth has a wood leaf taste that is about as powerful as the light sweet sugar that sort of turns maple sugar.  There is a pop of sweetness before returning.  There is a bit of texture in the mouth and throat and a powerful warming energy.

5th is left to cool then has a dry leaf and wood nice Taiwanese dry storage taste.  There are some edges of sweetness almost maple syrup in it’s sweet taste.  Slightly chalky dry mouth and throat with less oily taste now.

6th has a woody leaf dry Taiwanese storage taste with a lessening sweetness that is mainly at the edges now. No sweet pop or much returning.  The mouthfeel becomes more gripping.  Lots of warming qi on the face.

7th has a fallen leaf taste and feel not much sweetness left and an increasing dry gripping throat.

8th is much less flavours- watery now with a gripping dry mouthfeel.

Overall, a nicely dry stored puerh with obvious Yiwu material lots of oily, clear, thick aged Yiwu taste but the leaf material makes for a bit of a simple taste and feel.  The dry storage still gives us enough to enjoy.  Nice warming face qi is a highlight for me.  The first few infusions are really nice clear 90s Taiwanese dry storage Yiwu but after that it looses out to storage taste and gripping mouthfeel.  The leaf seems to be a blend of material some of which is lower quality.  Worth it for the Yiwu brilliance of the first handful of infusions.

1990s Mr. Chen’s Yellow Mark

A 357g cake goes for approx $332 or $0.93/g and again comes from Mr Chen’s own dry storage.

Dry leaves are , again, pretty muted wet they emit a sweet soil odour.

First infusion has a watery mineral woody watery taste.

Second has a woody mineral bitter sweetness.  A bit of coco and herbs with a cooling finish in the mouth with returning sweetness.  Nice dry stored Menghai material here.  Deeper warming in the core and abdominal.  Nice mild invigorating mind.  Mossy full mouth coating.  Heart racing.

Third infusion has a woody leaf dry Taiwanese storage taste with a cool mouth finish and some returning sweetness underneath.  Warming brow, abdomen, and core.  Mild has mild excitement with racing heart.

4th woody leaves with cooling mouth and faint returning sweetness.  Mossy full coating.  Nice warming qi with heart pals an some mild stimulating energy.  Has a relaxing feeling as well- nice qi.

5th has a woody brassy mineral with a nice rich woody sort of returning sweetness.  Mossy full mouthfeeling warming qi and some Heart beats and excitement feeling too.  Leaves you feeling relaxed.

6th has a dry woody mineral leaf onset with some cooling mouth and barely sweet returning.  Mossy mouthfeel becomes a bit drying now.  Lots of lower and mid torso warmth!

7th left to cool has a woody almost herby onset with a cooling mouth and subtle bitterness coco finish.  Warming and stimulating but relaxing.

8th has a rich woody leafy slightly sweet onset with slight cooling and barely sweet finish. Mossy coating and upbeat qi, less warming now.

9th has a bittersweet coco onset with a creamy silty almost herby taste.  Very tasty here.  Strong chest beats and warning qi that comes deep from the core and moistens the brow.

10th has a herby mineral onset with woody dry wood taste. Warming qi is concentrated on the forehead.  Not much sweetness anymore.

11th infusion has a mainly mineral woody taste left.  Strong warming qi still in there.

Nice dry stored Menghai material in here as seen in the nice full and uniform leaves.  You can get a nice indication of the Menghai area Qi with that enlivening Heart racing Qi but also a deep warmth and calm of aging.  Also some typical bitter sweet coco Menghai tastes are quite accessible with the nice Taiwanese dry storage.  Good stamina as well.

Yearly Retrospective & Happy Year of the Rabbit!

It seems as each year goes by I have less time for the evaluation of tea.  Most of the time I take advantage of either a particularly long day or a light day at work to do such things.  The last month no evaluation has taken place.  I’m thinking of changing the review posts to very short blurbs which I think people will appreciate more than these long run on reviews anyways.  I am usually composing the few articles or rankings rocking a cute baby late at night or up with any of the other kids in the middle of the night for reasons those who have kids can only imagine.  Of course, I continue to drink good teas everyday but I just don’t have the time to have a long concentrated session like I used to.  Life is too crazy but I’m happy with it and just lean into the chaos.  Tea is a refuge.  Yea is peace among the chaos if not to harmonize then at least to balance.  With that being said I feel the happiest with my tea purchases this year and the logical method of sampling seen here on the blog in 2022.

My sampling/ purchasing which is mostly seen here on the blog was done very logically.  It was focused into logical themes grouped together…

The biggest group where that of Chen Yuan Hao which I tied together with a ranking in last post.   They were all good and interesting samples and I’m pretty happy with the quarter cakes and full cakes that I have lying around.  The older style processing on this stuff is something that I’m used to with my history of factory cakes… but no mistake ChenYuan Hao are not factory cakes.

Speaking of factory cakes … this past year I have focused a lot on sampling iron cakes from 2001… over 20 years of age with factory charms all of them were really enjoyable.  I cake purchased a few of these.  I ranked the experience here.  The price/ age/ quality ratio is easy for me to commit to.  The beginning of the year saw me post on some other factory stuff mainly coming from TeasWeLike.  It made me think that I would like to focus here in the future.

I also explored more of the Bi Yun Hao brand.  The older stuff was interesting but still have not gone deep enough yet.  Amazing that I still only have one cake of YiYunHao.  I’d like to explore more of this in the next year.

This past Year of The Tiger I also did a deeper look into Puerist thanks to a package of complimentary samples. Puerist is a solid supplier of Gushu single area Sheng puerh for reasonable prices.  I have cake purchased a few of these in past years.

Also I am always grateful to be offered complimentary samples of Tea Encounter’s freshest Sheng puerh selections.  This year I reviewed them all and it ended up being the only fresh 2022 Sheng I had sampled this year.  I enjoyed their reasonably priced Gushus-Walong and Manzhuan which were interesting to compare.

I also dug deep into Puerh.uk’s catalogue as they supplied me with many complimentary samples for review with my purchases.  My overall impressions of their teas is good and resonantly priced.  I saw a lot of growth with them over their first full year of their Puerh.uk rebrand.

One of the highlights of my year is when Marco humours and humbles me with our exchange of blind samples.  He sent a some real beautiful teas this year and I’m still laughing at my blind evaluation of some of them!

A very different shift of tea drinking occurred for me this year that isn’t completely reflected in my posts.  The past 5 years or so I was almost exclusively drinking puerh but this year I started getting into some of my other old favourites that I haven’t craved in a while… I ended up drinking through my samples and tins of aged oolong, I really enjoyed these.  At the beginning of the year I purchased some samples of fresh Korean Balhyocha some of which I sampled a decade ago which I documented in a post here.  In the spring I purchased a bunch of fresh Yame matcha some of which I commonly consumed and posted 15 years ago!  I need to post on that beautiful stuff!

Happy Year of the Rabbit!

2003-2007 Chen Yuan Hao Ranking

I took the last week or so of holidays at home to retaste all of these and it was a really good tea week!  I just wanted to mention that this ranking is only comprised of the vetted samples by Puer.uk and TeasWeLike.

Well, I’m a bit surprised by what I found here.  I guess it wasn’t something that was out right stated by others until recently.  Most of what people were saying or what I understood was that the 2005 ChenYuan Hao Shanzhong Chuanqi was the pinnacle of ChenYuan Hao of this era.  However, although it is the Chen Yuan Hao cake I own the most, I think it is a bit overrated but I guess I’m not the only one.

Recently Marco stated that he enjoys the 2003 ChenYuan Hao ManZhuan and 2003 Chen Yuan Hao Youle more than the 2005 ChenYuan Hao Shanzhong Chuanqi for immediate drinking.  He believes Shanzhong Chuanqi will age into something more favourable but I’m a bit more skeptical about it because, it (at least the Teas We Like storage option) has some of the nuances washed away into the base depth taste and it overall feels like a bit of the complexity is lost here- still an excellent puerh.  I’m just as excited as him to see how this will age out.  I served the 2005 Shanzhong Chuanqi to another puerh person and he didn’t like it and didn’t even finish the cup- true story.  I believe James of TeaDB was also less enthusiastic about the 2005 Shanzhong Chuanqi when he first tried it but later warmed up to it.  I have sampled it extensively now.

Another thing I wanted to discuss is how to evaluate or appreciate these ChenYuan Hao on their own and in reference to other puerh producers of this time.  I think these earlier ChenYuan Hao productions are super interesting because they use a more traditional processing with obvious Gushu material.  I think it will age more favourably.  The 2003 six famous puerh mountain series gives a very clear, strong, and characteristic profile of these famous areas.  The blended commemorative cakes show off the complexity of the blend nicely.

Lastly I wanted to comment on the storage… although the TeasWeLike storage and the Puerh.uk “standard storage” do taste a bit different I’m not really sure that they come from different storage, at the very least they come from similar storage or were until recently stored the same, or the difference are slight that they came from humidity and packaging- not sure.  But as they continue to age in my storage after sampling them a year later the differences are even less.

I much prefer the other more limited but much better “old man” storage of Puerh.uk.  The cakes of this storage are the 2003 ChenYuan Hao Yiwu, 2003 ChenYuan Hao Yibang, 2004 ChenYuan Hao Song Pin Hao Commemorative, and the 2005 ChenYuan Hao Jing Chang Cha Zhuan (I do believe).  This storage is apparently quite hot and drier as it was stored by a hobbyist Mr. Old Man.  It comes off preserving more of the complexity and gives the puerh a subtle perfume fragrance,  the wet leaves appear slightly greener than the standard storage.

Ok here we go…

1- 2004 Chen Yuan Hao Song Pin Hao Commemorative- super strong wth thick oily juicy mouthfeel, strong bitter backbone, lots of resin and complex incense, strong body feeling and Qi sensations.  Powerful with nice stamina. Could be the best cake I own.

2- 2003 Chen Yuan Hao Yiwu (old man storage) (here and here)- this is just super delicious feel good classic Gushu Yiwu stuff there is an abundance of rich complex odours and sweet layer with this dry stored cake.  This one is easily winning the speed test!  I have half a cake but less each month. No longer for sale.

3- 2003 Chen Yuan Hao Tong Qing Hao Commemorative- (here and here)- very tasty, smooth creamy Yiwu with a thickish mouthfeel and nicer stamina then 2003 ChenYuan Hao Yiwu. This is not a strong Qi puerh but very easy to enjoy!  Picked up a cake from TeasWeLike.

The next four 2003 from the six famous tea mountains series are all very similar in quality first vetted by TeasWeLike.  I would love to try the Gedeng and Mangzhi one day.  Depending on my mood the four change preferences.  I drank them back to back this week and I actually prefer them in the opposite order but I’ll let the speed test sort this out for today…

4- 2003 Chen Yuan Hao Youle (here and here)-a very powerful yet very characteristic Youle.  Still some astringency in here and the taste is so condensed with the astringency and strong Qi that sometimes I have to step away from this one for a while in the session and regroup.

5- 2003 Chen Yuan Hao Yiwu (standard storage) (here and here)- very sweet condensed layered classic Yiwu profile.  Not as nuanced as the dried stored cake above but super enjoyable.

6- 2003 Chen Yuan Hao ManZhuan- (here and here)thick in the mouth, with aged delicious fruity taste, very nice full oily mouthfeeling.  The leaves are much more typical larger Gushu looking than the others in the series also has an older tree vibe.  This one is climbing the list ever time I re-try it.

7-2003 Chen Yuan Hao Yibang- this one gives me a bit of the body tingling and itch otherwise it would be higher on the list.  Perfume floral and sweet raisins with a Qi that gets me high and bodyfeeling on the head and face and lower limbs.  A really nice example of older semi-aged Yibang. This week when I tried it again the itch was easy to overlook for the other really positive features.

8- 2005 Chen Yuan Hao Shanzhong Chuanqi- (here and here)- this is a six famous tea mountain blend with deep profile and bitter base.  There is the really nice creep-up-on-you Qi at about the fourth or fifth infusion that gets me every time!  Flavours are a bit washed out in the storage here- always enjoyable for me!

9- 2007 Chen Yuan Hao Autumn Yiwu Chawang- this is a nice leaning to a more modern Yiwu Gushu type of thing that is super subtle, deep but delicate with less stamina.  This type of cake signals a change of gears for Chen Yuan Hao.

10- 2011 Chen Yuan Hao Qian Jia Zhai Jincha- okay this is younger than the others… and it’s an outlier production being outside the six famous tea mountains and pressed into a mushroom shape… but it is delicious coco sweetness and powerful qi with great stamina… my kind of puerh!  Great value.

11- 2005 Chen Yuan Hao Jing Chang Cha Zhuang- this one has a nice evolution throughout the session with oily and mouthwatering sweet onset that soon gets dominated by strong astringency and bitterness which drowns the subtle blend of this one.  Still interesting and enjoyable sample.

Peace

2003 ChenYuan Hao Yiwu- Puerh.uk Standard Storage vs Old Man Storage

The 2003 Chen Yuan Hao Yiwu (goes for approx. $500.00 for 357g cake or $140.00/g) had come in two different storage options at Puerh.uk.  The “old man storage” (here and here) is very very delicious and there is a more typical or widely offered storage offered by TeasWelike.  This is also a more standard storage option that was sent to me for comparison in my last order that I will review here today..,

Dry leaves have a sweet bready woody not as perfume or fruity as preferred storage.

First infusion has a creamy sweet bready note with expanding creamy taste.  Mild chalky mossy mouthfeeling with some mouthwatering before the aftertaste of creamy icing sugar sweetness.

Second infusion has a woody rubbery taste that has a woody almost herby finish that is faintly sweet.  More like a bread sweetness.  Expanding sweetness in the breath.  Soft mossy mouthfeeling.  Relaxing Qi.

The third infusion has a woody dry-fruity chicory herbal taste to it with an almost licorice and bread finish sort of like sweet breads.  Sweet bready tastes lingers with a chalky mild mossy mouthfeeling.  There is a euphoric relaxing feeling in the Qi with shoulders and limbs light.

The fourth infusion is left to cool and gives off a mellow woody herb icing sugar sweetness that develops more creamy sweet taste in the aftertaste.  Euphoric relaxing Qi with shoulders and limbs light feeling.

The 5th has a woody herbs creamy sweet onset with subtle bready dry woody sweetness and a mossy mouthfeeling.  There is a brassy creamy dry woody base to the taste with some mild mouth dry feeling.

6th has a dry woody herbal taste with a dry gripping mouthfeeling and some faint cooling and icing sugar taste that mixes with the cooling breath.  Nice relaxing euphoria.

7th has a flat woody bready onset with a drying oily mouthfeeling with a faint woody sugary finish.  Mainly dry woody tastes now.  Nice relaxing euphoria with full feeling mouth and throat.

8th left to cool it gives off a mildly oily and sweet woody taste not much sweetness just at the edges and a bit herby tasting.  The sweetness quietly expands in the throat.  Mossy mouthfeeing.

9th is a minutes long infusion is a woody dry bark dry mouth sweetness with a nice oily texture and full mossy almost dry mouth.  Long cooling aftertaste with edges of sweetness and a relaxing euphoria.

10th is a 5 minute infusion and gives off a woody dry woody bark varnish taste.  Not really any sweetness and a long cooling mouthfeeling.  Nice euphoria tastes hold…

Overall this puerh doesn’t resemble the preferred storage option that much at all.  This “Standard storage” has much darker spent leaf.  The preferred “Old Man storage” has a greener leaf that you can see in the photos.  The “standard storage” doesn’t have the perfume florals and deeper fruity sweetnesses and is not really that sweet at all- its more woody than sweet where the preferred “old Man” storage is more sweet than woody.  If I didn’t know you would think they were different puerh… I’m drinking the overnight steeping of wet leaves and the standard storage is a bit plum with oily body and sweet creamy woody finish over a nice silty mouthfeeling.  The “Old Man” storage has a perfume incense taste to it with pear and peace and plum fruity complexity with less woody taste- it becomes obvious that the “old man” storage is dry stored in a house where the standard is more natural or part natural Taiwanese storage.  The drier storage is much superior here.

Peace
