What does Thicc (thick) puerh actually taste like? I guess it could mean many different things
depending on who you ask and what they are actually describing. To me, this puerh has a thick mouthcoating and
overall feeling. I got this complimentary
sample a while back but if you were to buy a cake this one would set you back $168.36 for 400g cake or $0.42/g. Let’s see why
I’m calling this one out as thick…
Dry leaves have a surgery clear icy pungency with a distant
barnyard nuance.
The first infusion has a watery clean almost pungency with
an icing sugar edge. It tastes like
delicate sweet water. The lips become a
touch sticky.
The second infusion has a watery almost surgery onset. There is a mild underlying vegitalness to
it. The liquor has a moderate oily
texture but the taste is very clean, watery, with a mild sweetness. The Qi is starting to make me feel a bit
relaxed. There is an unadulterated pure
floral ghostly aftertaste in the mouth. These Ma Hei’s can be a delicate thing…
almost like a silver needles white.
The third infusion starts oily and clear water with just a
pure surgery edge. It progresses to a
mild pungency then a slow ghostly sweetness.
A pure mild melon taste develops in the throat minutes later. There is a peach dimension that appears in
the aftertaste as well. The mouthfeel is
oily and silky in the mouth and throat.
The odour from the wet leaves are very perfume, floral and this
translates nicely in the subtle aftertaste.
The fourth infusion has an almost milky sweetness with
nuances of floral underneath. There is a
lingering cool pungency and a stickier mouthfeeling. The aftertaste is of melon and floral. The
tastes are very clear and unadulterated, not that layered but thick in the
mouth. The throatfeeling is subtle and
deep and holds a glob of tasty saliva of faint fruity notes and florals
there. The Qi has a mild cozy relaxing
feeling in the mind. The aftertaste is
really long even minutes later due to this optimal throat saliva capturing
effect. Peach, melon, wildflower,
greenhouse flower- subtle and nice.
The fifth infusion starts thick and oily in the mouth with
peach, florals, very oily and clear flavours in a watery but viscus liquor. The thick oil of the liquor and capturing
throatfeeling work optimally for this type of light puerh…. It’s working for
me. There is a mild lingering coolness
in the throat even minutes later a distinct floral and now a sweet creamy
aftertaste is more dominant that the fruity melon and peach. The Qi feels relaxing in the chest and the
Heart beats slowly. My acuity is
sharpened and a calm alertness. Lots of
long lingering melon in the throat.
The sixth continues to get more vicus and oily in the
mouth. It now has a very thick feeling
in the mouth with tones of fruity nuances unmuddled but other low tastes linger
softly. The depth comes from the thick
oil and capturing throat feeling and lingers minutes later. There is a long thick aftertaste- creamy
sweet. The Qi feels really nice in the
body- subtly warming. The lips and
mouthfeeling are sticky and heavy and oily.
The Qi sensation in the mind is freeing and liberating, relaxing but my
acuity is quite strengthened.
The seventh continues to thicken into a very very oily and
viscus treat. There are notes of peach,
melon, florals, mandarin orange now, creamy sweetness, the mouthfeeling is
becoming thicker, and deeper, stickier.
Deep throat feeling emerges in this infusion.
The eighth infusion is thick thick tea syrup. With more of a chenpi orange nuance to
it. The mouthfeeling is dense and
engaging the sweetnotes more gravitate to the aftertaste now. The Qi is really nice not overly strong but
really strongly focusing. The body feel
very relaxed, light, the joints feel nimble.
The ninth infusion is very very oily thick viscus with an orange
peel very subtle bitter astringency that is almost not there. The floral taste is the most dominant in the
aftertaste. The Qi in the body is really
nice has a muscular relaxing feeling in the body and the mind is sharp without
being stimulated. I like this.
The 10th is a thick peachy onset with a mild
cooling that turns the peach into a creamy sweetness with faint suggestions of
wildflower and chenpi.
The 11th continues with the thick oiliness. Peach onset, wave of cooling long taste that
brings a distinct long wild flower aftertaste.
I like the Qi, I feel really nice with this one focused, happy, sharp,
body free, even body release.
The 12th is thick oil, an almost peach nuance
turns into a creamier sweetness in the aftertaste with suggestions of chenpi
and wildflower. The stomach feels a
touch raw at this point from the greenness of this very young puerh. The chest opens and breath deepens.
The 13th is a bit less thick and more floral off
the intimal taste which carries with it a cooling later in the profile and a
subtle fruitiness later. The
throatfeeling is becoming slightly sandier here. There is a creamy sweetness in the throat
minutes later.
The 14th has a slight almost bitter edge along
with wild flower and chenpi. There are some
melon nuances throughtout and a cooling finish that brings a mild creamy
sweetness. The mouthfeeling is becoming
slightly astringent.
The 15th is getting more watery and sandy, less
thick and flavourful so I push it with a 20 second infusion here. The throat feeling is still somewhat
stimulating which leads to a long floral aftertaste.
The 16th is a dense floral becoming oily thick
again. With a stronger wildflower nuance
with faint suggestions of melon and fruit again. The throat feeling is still solid.
The 17th is longer and pushes out more floral and
fruit but edges of bitter astringency too.
The mouthfeel becomes sharper with this push. The throat feels deeply opened. The Qi pushes me into a sweet spot.
I put this into a minutes long infusion by accident but it
reveals now thick, oily, and fruity deep this puerh still has left in it.
I do a few more minutes long infusion then an overnight
infusion, and push out more thick, viscus, full fruity taste.
This puerh is very nice with a thick oily feeling. I hear the words “thick” (or, as they say
these days, “thicc”) a lot over the last few years. However, when I sample these other teas, they
are never, really, that thick at all.
For those who want to know what a truly thick puerh tastes like, this is
the one for you.
This puerh is very light fragrant green tasting thing but has this pretty deep thickness to it as well. Most puerh this light don't have this layer of thick mouthfeeling in there without a mid and or deep taste profile. This is an interesting puerh although parts of me think its more for drinking fresh- the reason I just couldn't bring myself to cake it even though it is my favorite 2019 Zheng Si Long offered by Tea Encounter.
Great Qi… I like the Qi of this one too. Stamina too… Very nice…
