Erabo Style Tea Bowls

Erabo style is defined by its clay. Erabo clay is flecked with stones and thick sand. These raw materials leave the bowl with an uncut roughness. On good Erabo bowls one can sense their beauty through all of their roughness. Erabo bowls are particularly appealing to the sense of touch as grit and pebbled surfaces emit the wild solitary feeling of the mountain.

These are grounding bowls. Erabo bowls teach us to find the good in everything. Touching a good Erabo bowl is like touching the diamond in the rough and knowing the diamond is the rough.

These two Erabo bowls by Jung Jum Gyo are two such brilliant pieces.

Peace

Wonderful bowls. On the photos, such a strength emanate from the color and the txture of the pottery with its irregularities and its little cracks.

so simple ... an evidence : shape and color and clay are going together.

Soiwatter,

The little cracks and irregularities really complete the feel of these bowls. Between the fingers these features really come to life. Glad you enjoyed them.

Ginkgo,

One agrees with you that the shape of these bowls seems just right. It's colour, the colour of unearthed dirt seems to dance and mingle with the irregularities that Soiwatter mentioned as well as shape and colour. And then there are the very rugged intricacies of the feet of these bowls.... wonderful.

I love these pieces you show us and I wonder if it will be possible to buy some . Do you know where and how ? Have you some links or contacts ?

Ginkgo,

Yeah, being surrounded by these pieces truly enrich one's tea drinking not to mention one's day-to-day life. One really doesn't want to turn this blog into a internet shopping web page, but if you are really into a piece on this blog let one know and we'll see what we can do.

One has to give you a heads up that most pieces featured on this blog are by quite famous tea masters and often sell for thousands of dollars. So far a few readers have inquired about certain items but were really taken aback by the hefty price. For instance these bowls by Jum Jung Gyo would sell for around $15 000.00 USD each.

Peace
