2024 vs 2023 Tea Encounter YiShanMo Gushus!

Tiago sent me the 2024 Tea Encounter YiShanMo Gushu (approx $160 for 250g cake or $0.64/g) sometime this past Autumn/ Winter and I have been eagerly anticipating trying it when the weather got hot and when the first heatwave of the year hit, I had it in my pot…. But before I did that I sampled Tea Encounter’s 2023 YiShanMo ($83.00 for 200g cake or $0.41/g) first and did a comparison here…. Hahaha….

2023 Tea Encounter Yi Shan Mo

Dry leaves have a very sweet sugar and floral with a faint forestry not quite barnyard but complex high and low odours.

Rinsed leaves have deep forest slight barnyard even less sweet smell.

First infusion has a clear pure forest taste with barnyard Forest nuances as the min taste with a faint sweetness hard to grasp underneath.  Lingering sweet lime on the breath.

Second has a sweet pure watery clear taste with a barnyard forest base and lime then barnyard forest sweet breath.  An airy evolution of taste here.

Third left to cool and is a sweet light watery with deeper barn yard forest taste long profile of elegant airy taste.  Very light in the body Qi… light chest and limbs feeling.

Fourth has a buttery sweet floral faint oily textured mouthwatering taste. Nice and oily wet mouth long taste profile is gentle.  Soothing light in body qi.  Chest and limbs floating mild and gentle Qi.  Long sweet limes fresh fruity breath with faint barnyard forest breath.

5th is a sweet pure fruity onset with faint barnyard forest base long lime and barnyard faint sweet finish.  Lots of subtle complexity.  No bitterness nor astringency smooth and satisfying.  Cooled down it is more buttery sweet with nice oily wet texture. Light limbs and chest.

6th is an oily viscus texture mouthfeel with a buttery sweet taste soft evolving sweet tastes of pear and maybe peach…. Mainly pear… light feeling in the body… light limbs. Cooled down it is pear sweet water with mild oily textured mouthwatering taste and chalky sweet forest finish.

7th has a watery buttery oily textured mouthwatering taste with soft transition& to sweet aftertaste mild forest taste. Light airy Qi feeling.

8th is a watery almost woody sweetness it’s becoming a bit insipid with still an airy light limbs qi.

9th is an overnight thermos steeping… it has a smooth watery oily sweet taste chalky feeling underneath no bitterness or astringency at all this session including here in the long steep…

10th day later steeping is oily sweet long fresh chalky oily viscus texture pure sweet vibrant.  Long fresh candy melon…

2024 Tea Encounter Yi Shan Mo Gushu

Dry leaves have a very sweet almost candy odour to them subtle deep forest odours.

Rinsed leaves sweet forest odours.

First infusion is a fresh sweet oily watery mouthwatering taste. So fresh and vibrant with an evolution oily sweet profile and a lime fresh candy aftertaste. Vibrant and bright and sparkling vibrancy.

Second infusion has a banana and tropical fruity taste smooth evolution of sweet taste.  Long candy tropical fruity finish. Clear flavours with a subtle faint forest taste throughout no astringency or bitterness at all fluffy mouthfeel with some oily textured mouthwatering taste.

Third infusion has a very sweet candy buttery vibrant pop of taste.  Smooth creamy buttery feeling and taste with edges of melon and green grapes. Vibrant pops of sweet tastes.  Light chest and mild qi feeling.  Mouthwatering candy breath. Faint sticky mouth.

Fourth is a sweet pop of delicious tastes fruity with a moderately thick chalky mouthfeel.  Long almost melon sweet tastes they turns to candy on the mouth.  Face qi is evident now.  Salivating mouthfeel. Light limbs heavy shoulders.

7th is a sweet slight pungent sweet forestry woody sweet taste.  Some chest flutters and beats with energy mild uplift and mind scatter.  Cooled down it is a bit more melon sweet with candy and lime aftertaste. Heavy shoulders and light qi to limbs.

8th left to cool is a woody slight sour slight sweet smooth chalky a bit oily watery some deep energy buildup with this one…. It gives me energy but never astringent nor bitter at all

9th is a long thermos steeping comes out moderately bitter and woody deeper uplifting moderate energy.

Days long infusion is oily viscus with a woody Forest base  taste with slight bitterness woody.

2023 vs 2024 I liked the 2023 Tea Encounter YiShanMo considerably more.  For its unwavering long evolution of sweetnesses, light airy Qi, and absolutely no signs of bitter astringency. Purity. It would be nice to revisit the 2024 as it thickens in a year or two.

High Again…. 2006 Yang Qing Hao ChaWangShu

I sampled and posted this one before… although my last post on this one has a negative slant on the storage.  It seems to be doing well with longer dry storage and if you can look away from some aspects of the more typical Yang storage (wait but I like Yang Storage awayways) you are really treated to a phenomenal treat in one of the best ChaWangShu qi experiences on the market… this is really what keeps me coming back to this one…. The price is reasonable for what you get in that…

This 2006 Yang Qing Hao ChaWangShu goes for $440.00 for 500g cake or 0.88/g.

Dry leaves have a swampy leaf sweet almost faint floral.

Rinsed leaves have a sweet woody fallen leaf odour.

First infusion has a watery sweet creamy talc sweet emerging sweet layered taste.  Thirst quenching light layered sweet watery taste. Cooled down is a light leafy sweet creamy finish.  Strong qi starts to flutter the mind.

Fifth the next day is sweet melon chalky long sweet taste.  Clear sweet melon with slight leaves.  Deep high floating body feeling.

Sixth infusion has a sweet leaf melon chalky evolving sweet sugar to creamy chalky almost melon.  Nice evolving sweet taste. Face and body tingling and floating big Qi high!

Seventh has a leaf creamy chalky sweet taste almost melon almost sugar chalky throat feeling long sweet evolution deep powerful out of body floating high feeling. Cooled down it is watery creamy sweet leaf and soft chalky slight almost faint bitter woods.  Out of body floating stoned high is still there…

Eighth is left to cool and has a woody sweet almost resin woody sweet. Long sweetness but also woody big chest opening floating feeling. Chalky talc appears even melon in the cooled down liquid.

6th is left to cool and is a woody creamy sweet in a smooth full chalky mouthfeeling. Less full and strong sweetness which is starting to give way to woodier tastes. Heavy shoulders relaxation.  Slight drier chalky mouthfeel with let wet oily textures.

2006 Yang Qing Hao Yeh Chang Hsiang

This 2006 Yang Qing Hao Yeh Chang Hisiang goes for $380.00 for 500g cake or $0.76/g… a blend of Autumn and Spring Yiwu the site says… I tried this one before with a sample from Liquid Proust and was considering but never went ahead with a purchase…

Dry leaves have a herby sweet creamy odour.

Rinsed leaves are a bit salty woody herby.

First infusion has a long creamy pure icing sugar taste.  There is a mild dry wood and almost faint raisins.  Cool throat deep throat opening as the creamy icing sugar transforms into cooling breath.  Mild chalky mouthfeel.

Cool breath.  Complex taste.  Deep chest opening and spaced out feeling good qi.  Dryer stored than other Yang Qing Shao and also many smaller leaves, with maybe tighter rolled production and/ or possibly some Wild Tea/ Yesheng in the mix… interesting outlier Yang Qing Hao.

4th infusion has a vegital bitter root vegetable slight incense smoke with lesser underlying sweetness and saltiness.  Sort of slight dry woody vegital left in mouth.  Spacy high. Chest opening neck release with jaw light and head light.

5th has an almost resin woody vegetal salty taste with a dry woody mid and a mild sweetness and mild bitterness with salty taste.  Minutes later a faint caramel appears.  Chest beats and mind feels very high.  Mouthfeel is slight dry and oily.

9th was an hours long mug steeping and it comes out dense oily herbs medicinal moder bitterness and some dry wood vegital faint coco rootbeer tastes.  Dense and complex salty medicinal tastes and some lesser smoke incense.  Big spaced out feeling.

Long mug steeping of spent leaves is a bitter herbal vegital with medical root dry woody taste.  Tingling mouthfeel smoke background.

This puerh is definitely on my radar to purchase due to its reasonable price.  I dropped it from my last order but it was the final cut from the order…. The price had just gone up, I think, and I went for better value… this one is a good contender for next order … still not sure…

2020 Meng Xiang Geng Kan

Oh boy…. It’s been crazy busy in my life this winter…. I always say “ a good busy”…. As far as evaluating teas… Mainly I worked on sampling the complete Yang Qing Hao catalogue but didn’t finish it but have lots of posts to come on that! It seems things have slowed down for a bit here so if that pace continues… expect these posts to drop to come fast…

Tiago of Tea Encounter was excited to send me the latest-  an early spring tasting of something still showing some fresher signs but starting into semi-aged.  I sampled it in the middle of a cold snap at the end of winter but it just seemed like the wrong tea to drink at that time…. So I sampled it again in the warmer Springtime and was pretty satisfying…

Dry leaves have a sweet layering of honey and fresh fruits with a deep sweet pungency.

Rinsed leaves have a pungent piercing sweetness with a tropical orange sweetness sometimes a fruity banana and fresh fruits odour.  Smells familiar like Lincang even Bing Dao I have tried before even a familiar dry storage odour…

First infusion has a nutty a bit salty tropical fruity bananas in a wet slippery feeling mouth with a background of spice.  Eyes and forehead expanding unique bodyfeeling. Chest expanding.  Tropical fruits left in the aftertaste.

Tonnes of mouthwatering and juicy viscus saliva producing.  Spacy feel good.  Metallic salivating even a salty taste.

Second infusion has a smooth fruity taste over a slippery mouthfeel.  Big chest swelling and tropical fruity but mainly an orange aftertaste with background spice and pungency.  Dense taste with a bitterness lingering in the background.  Lots of in-mouth taste and feeling less in-throat.

Third infusion is left to cool and comes off tropical fruity sweet with a dense almost quick bitterness. Spacy mind.  Slippery a nice chest beats with an uplifting mood feeling.

Fourth infusion has a melon smooth tropical fruity dense taste hard to reach not real bitterness. Full oily viscus mouthfeel. Space out Qi.  Uplifting mood.

Fifth infusion has a bitter sour fruit onset. There is an oily feeling in the mouth with a low evolving bitter sour orange taste. Spacy qi feeling with open chest. Uplifting but lore spaced out focus. Shoulders a bit heavy and mind slowing a bit now.

Sixth infusion has a sour fruity taste.  Wet almost bitterness in the mouth that fades away hard to grasp. Spacy mind chest mild feeling with heavy shoulder.

Seventh infusion has a bitter sour fruitiness.  Spacy mind. Some chesty beats.

Eighth sour sweet tropical fruity onset in an oily broth.  Mouthfeel but not much in the throat. Spaced out mind with done nice heart beats. Fruity sour almost bitter finish.

9th is left to cool and is still sour sweet fruity.  Chalky wet mouthfeel.  Spaced out feeling.

10th has a sweet tropical fruity oily slippery full oily taste spaced out relaxing too.

11th is is an overnight mug steeping of spent leaves… it has an orange sweet citrus blossoms juicy sweet taste.  Viscus juicy orange.  Spacy feeling. Has the taste and feel of something Western Xishuangbanna … or maybe Lincang… yummy and Spacy.

I sampled this one blind but it turns out it is a Lincang, Da Xue Shan! This 2020 Meng Shan Geng Kan goes for $86.20 for 357g cake or $0.24/g

2005 Yang Qing Hao Yiwu Cha Wang (Houde Stored)

This 2005 Yang Qing Hao Cha Wang sample is not from Yang’s storage it’s been dry stored by Houde in Huston for a few decades-ish.  I sampled it a few years ago here on the blog here but thought to retaste as I go through the Yang Qing Hao experience here…

Overall a nice solid Yiwu very easy to drink and no fuss feel good puerh but doesn’t dazzle and dazzle like most Yang Qing Hao with more a moderate and less complex Qi sensations as we have been used to being rather spoiled by other Yang Qing Hao productions.  However, their is a steady feeling of blissful happiness that carries me throughout this day on the Qi….

2005 Yang Qing Hao Ting Chi Pin

This 2005 Yang Qing Hao Ting Qi Pin goes for $520.00 for 500 g cake or $1.04/g.  It’s also referred to as 2005 Yang Qing Hao Dingjipin…

Dry leaves have a creamy sweet odour pure odour with a faint wood.

Rinsed leaves have a creamy sweet layered high notes almost cherry strawberries.

First infusion has a watery soft creamy taste that turns into sweetness.  Soft gentle energy with a chest swelling feeling.  Wet mouthfeeling. Somehow reminds me of Wangong.chest opening calm perspective.

Second infusion has a soft chalky watery almost strawberries taste.  There is a bit more sweetness in the return of light sweet strawberries.  Very gentle in taste with a prominent watery/wet mouthfeeling. Some swelling chest feeling. Calm. Perspective feeling a touch out of body feeling.  Soft calming with chest swelling.  Cooled down it has a watery almost faint mushroom and more soft taste creamy with a mild sweetness that develops in the return. Sticky mouthfeel.

Third infusion has a watery creamy wet taste almost a light melon taste that is hard to grasp with slight background mushroom the sweet taste comes out in the return. Very subtle and gentle. Some chest swelling.  Maybe the lightest and most subtle of all Yang Qing Hao.

4th has a watery almost melon sweet taste there is some faint mushroom background that might be more Yang storage notes than coming from the material I’m not sure.  It’s so clear in taste that it’s noticeable.  Cooled down it has a creamy chalky sandy melon taste with a fine sandy mouthfeel subtle cool mouth.  Swelling chest feeling.  A gentle relaxing feeling not that more perspective altering if the first few infusions.

5th infusion has a mild sandy creamy sort of taste with subtle mushroom spice and melon sweet returning.  Wet mouthfeeling with a sticky sandiness slight dry roof of mouth.  Swelling chest feeling and calming feeling.

6th has a watery creamy sort of mushroom onset.  Swelling chest wet mouth with a dry roof of mouth.  Swelling chest expanding feeling.melon is very faint in the return.  Sticky almost drying feeling.  Peaceful calm.

7th has a watery mild flavour of creamy melon swelling chest feeling calm kind feeling.  Cooled down is a clear watery subtle melon sweet taste.  Swelling chest feeling.

8th infusion is left to cool and is a creamy sweet melon mild tasting with some breath coolness and calm feeling stick roof of mouth is always very mild but noted.  Chest swelling.

9th has a watery onset with background tastes a returning sweet mild melon is there as well. Chest swelling.  This puerh is very consistent infusion to infusion with more of a purity of a single area rather than a wider blend like most other Yang Qing Hao it’s also very subtle and gentle for an earlier Yang Qing Hao.

10th is becoming very watery still some Qi in there but is starting to fade….

11th is us a long steeping of spent leaves and is a creamy cherry sweet taste.  Smooth oily mouthfeeling with nice oily sweet fruity tastes.  Oily very sweet fruity stays in mouth lingering sweet taste.  Happy floating feeling.

I put it into a days long mug steeping and it is fruity oily smooth with a fruity cherries and strawberries taste.  Nice clean sweet and very easy to drink.  I like this for what it is… easy pure gentle Yang Qing Hao.

2005 Yang Qing Hao Yuan Shih Sen Ling Huang Shan Cha (aka Long Name)

In the West this 2005 Yang Qing Hao Yuan Shih Sen Ling Huang Shan Cha ($610.00 for 500g cake or $1.22/g) is also affectionately referred to as 2005 Yang Qing Hao “Long Name” I’m going to say that Shah8 started this as far as I know.

Dry leaves have a deeper herby sweet odour.

Rinsed leaves have a sweet cinnamon herby woody odour.

First infusion is a sweet watery almost candy with a more present woody.  Slight tongue tingling feeling with an empty mouth feel.  Deep throat opening and stimulating with lingering candy watery sweetness longing deep in the pure tasting cool throat opening.  Deep mind pausing peacefulness takes hold with levitating body and subtle tinging skin.

Second is a creamy cooling chalky candy.  Soft in the mouth with very deep sweet throat opening. Body pausing with floating and tingling distinct body feeling.  Cooled down it is creamy sweet candy cooling deep throat.

Third infusion has a woody menthol turns into a cooling very herby almost medicinal tasting with a woodsy talc taste.  Big qi pauses the mind tingles the skin and levitates the body. If feel happy and did ate with a happy talkative bubbling underneath.

Fouth infusion has a woodsy herby talc onset with a sweet background underbelly.  Slight sandy mouthfeeling with sticky lips and edges.  Big heart beats and mind floating. Big qi and complex with mind pausing body tingling.  Shoulders floating up. Blissed mind.  Medicinal camphor woody.

5th is a sweet woody herby camphor medicinal talc.  Herbs and medicinal plants make this one unique.  There is a deep throat opening but also a silty mouthfeel sticky lips and roof of mouth and fine sandy feeling.  Big qi chest feeling like diaphragm is rising up through the Heart feeling. Very unique body feel with skin tingling big deep energy boost revival.

6th bitter medicinal woods onset with herby woody taste slight sticky mouth with deep throat cooling .  Big qi makes me almost overwhelmed and a bit jumpy with a deep diaphragm moving up feeling limbs tingling.

7th has a talc medicinal woody taste big Qi hits hard complex and deeply.  Cooled down more watery candy sweet taste.  Lingering candy in deep throat with soft silty mouth feeling.  Big diaphragm upwards movement with big rising up energy movements. Levitating, tingling, almost jittering.

8th is left to cool and is a woody talc herby medicinal. Big upward movement of qi silty louthfeeling with underlying sweet candy big chest and shoulders upwards! Candy talc finish in deep throat and in the chalky mouthfeeling.

9th has a talc bitter woods with a herby with slight mouth lips sticky but not drying.  Deep throat opening.  Cooling medical camphor.

The long mug steeping of spent leaves has a deep incense spice mushroom woody salty savory depth.  Lots of ingesting death in here.  Silty mouthfeel.  Smoky incense deep dark taste.  Chest uprising diaphragm and elevated feelings.  Mood up!

I put it into another days long mug infusion and it is sweet savory slightly minty deeper woods and dirts.

Due to the stronger medical and herbal woody taste this is a puerh lovers puer not for the sweet at heart… it also makes it a bit of a unique production of Yang Qing Hao in its taste profile.  Yes it has sweetness but more of in just the first few infusions before it goes background.  Why am I evening talking about the taste… its mouthfeel is pretty complex with lots of deep throat and silty chalky sandy sticky feelings to balance out the deep throat but if you are going for this puerh it really is about the complex bodyfeeling… doesn’t get much better than this…

I should pick a cake of this up sometime soon although I missed the window for getting this one at any sort of deal.

Peace

2004 Yang Qing Hao Jinhao Chawang

This one also sold out a few years ago and was a bit cheaper than the others and is an outlier production of Yang Qing Haos 2004 line…

Dry leaves have a sweet cardboard odour to them.

Rinsed leaves have a sort of floral and roasted nut odour.

First infusion has a watery sort of nutty sweet taste with slightly sandy mouthfeel and hard to grasp almost nutty floral sweetness.

Second has a light watery woody slight sour floral taste with a creamy sweet finish.  Very light and spacious flavours.  Cooled down it finishes more melon fruity and dry wood.  Wet mouthfeel with fine sand on tongue.  Warm energy in the face.

Third infusion has a watery sour fruity taste.  That fruity taste is quite clear and oily pear.  Oily mouthfeel.  Spaced out flavour nuances.  Creamy pear and peach notes.  Creamy sweet finish. Mild peaceful feeling.

Fourth infusion has a peach and pear clear oily taste.  Long creamy sweet aftertaste some sugars and peach and pear with some cooling and mouthwatering.  Simple pure clear and delicious flavours.  Some arm tingling.

5th is left to cool and has a peachy pear oily pure taste.  Oily mouthfeeling compliments the pure fruit flavours nicely.  Some soft faint sand on the tongue.  Long sweet bready creamy fruity almost fruitbread aftertaste. Slight warming spacy energy.  Some sensations in forearms.

6th is left to cool and has a fruity pear and peach oily taste.  Pure clear enjoyable flavours.  A bit relaxing Qi.  Slight bready sweet aftertaste. Oily mouthfeel.

7th has a woody almost pungent oily sweet fruit pear and peach.  Spacy relaxing.  Slight fine sand on tongue some faint bodyfeel in arms.

8th has a woody almost pungent sweet taste slight oily and fine sand tongue.Relaxing.

9th is left to cool and is woidy with some peachy pear oily sweet taste.

I put the rest into a long mug steeping… it comes out sweet and a bit floral not really any heavier Yang Qing Hao storage tastes.   There is some pungency and some root beers. Swelling chest feeling.

Overall, this less expensive 2004 has done quite well with age there is a reason it’s sold out for the lower price it sold for.  I enjoy it for what it is and it seemed to improved with a bit of age.
