2007 Yang Qing Hao Bitter Brick

I sampled this 2007 Yang Qing Hao Bitterness Brick ($90.00 for 250g cake or $0.36/g) back to back with the 2006 Brick but they are completely different concepts with the 2006 more of a solid blend of lower grade and leftovers at a lower price and 2007 a pure grade of bitter varietals… still low price!

Iron compression very tight brick has dry leaves which have a lemon lime melon sweet odour to them.

Rinsed has a sweet fresh odour.

First infusion has a bitter sweet soapy floral and creamy sweet taste.  Vibrant melon watermelon rinds with soapy floral but creamy and a full taste throughout.  Mouthwatering effect.  Chest opening feeling. Chest and shoulders Qi.  Chest rising into throat sensation with a happy upbeat feeling.

Second infusion has a bitter soapy creamy sweet with bitter long taste.  Big chest body feelings!   Rising into throat.  Cooled down it is bitter long bitter melon rinds with sweet creamy soapy taste.  Big chest beats.

Third infusion has a melon creamy sweet with balanced bitter long taste big chest qi!  Cooled down it has a sweet smooth moderate bitter taste creamy bitter long bitter.  No astringency just straight bitter sweet.

Fourth infusion is left to cool and has a bitter sweet almost coco fruity bready.  Sweet bitter balance with some salivating and bready melon taste.

Fifth infusion is smooth sweet bitter with melon balance full feeling big chest beats and opening. Fresh melon aftertaste.

6th is a creamy full sweet taste with lesser bitter woody taste.

7th is left to cool and is a bitter sweet long bitter woody taste.  Bitter woody with less sweetness now.

8th is sweet woody honey bitter long taste moderate bitter now. Mouthwatering melon rinds.

9th has a sweet bitter woody taste to it.  Brandy woody bitter not as sweet…

Overnight steeping is sweet melon fruity with a mild moderate bitterness that gives it a vibrant refreshing feeling.

If this isn’t Lao Man E then what else could it be? It’s Lao Man E….

Hi Matt, I've heard mixed reviews on this and the other brick. Curious how this compares to other things, like say jinya or yehgu?

Hi Ignoramus, first of all you have to consider the price of these bricks… they are pretty cheap… for the price, I think, they are pretty good value enjoyable in there own way… blended brick in its random way, this bitter brick in its bitter way if you like bitter. But this is not top shelf Lao Man E… I have tried better many a time… but satisfying it is especially considering its iron pressed and has been sealed stored since probably pressed…. I like this type of thing for this type of material so I’m fond of it for its price! Yehgu is a bitter wild tea and is also a very different beast… I like it and bought a cake … I like Yesheng wild tea sometimes and this is one of the best of these examples. 2007 Yang Qing Hao JinYa review is coming very soon here on the blog but is the easiest to enjoy and regularly drink out of all that you have mentioned … great kick for the price but less outlier compared to the others discussed.
Peace
