2007 Yang Qing Hao Jin Cha

I have never sampled this 2007 Yang Qing Hao JinCha (that goes for $120.00 for 300g mushroom or $0.40/g) before despite its popularity so I am really looking forward to this…

Dry leaves have a woody dusty leaf primarily very sweet odour.

Rinsed leaf  is, again, very sweet.

First infusion has a very sweet creamy candy taste.  Mouthwatering wet mouth.  Very long almost candy finish. Different evolutions of sweetnesses here. Mildly Spacy mind and deep breaths.

Second infusion very sweet rich and slight resin.  Woody sweet very unapologetically Yiwu sweet evolution.  Long sweet finish.  Mouthfeel is a bit grainy and sticky and coarser.  Mild Spacy mind and chest beats with deep breaths. Almost a woody mild bitterness emerges.

Third infusion a very rich resin woody sweet dense taste.  Strong chesty Qi with energy surge.  Spacy happy and energetic brain.  Very strong Qi push here and surge of energy! Cooled down it is a very sweet dense resin woody with long sweet finish slight coco tastes emerge as very mild bitterness comes out in the end. Big energy boost.

Fourth cooled down is a very sweet dense evolving sweet cooling breath long sweet finish…. sweeeeeeeet! Happy uplift and strong energetic boost! Bready and almost leaf but slight coco bitter sweet finish in aftertaste.

Fifth is a sweet leaf evolving sweet taste very dense with grainy mouthfeel slight mild bitterness. Almost coco sweet in finish that comes and goes with a longer flat sweet finish.  Woody almost incense smoke faint lingering.

6th has a punchy woody slight bitter sweet incense woody bark bitter woodiness that is more than sweetnesss now. More of a granular drier feeling in the mouth.  Not much throat feeling at all through the session with a present upper mouthfeeling.

7th The next day I continue the flash steeping with leaves left in the pot…. Bitter sweet woody creamy taste with a coarse chalky taste and mainly dry woody bark finish always with a bit of sweet underlying.  Mild uplift and chest wi is strong.

8th is left to cool but comes off sweet woody mild bitter dry wood finish… mainly sweet with sweet finish disappearing. Mild energy burst and chest opening and sensations.

Although still something left in the tank with this one, I opt for a long mug steeping… hours later it is a sweet woody rich bitterness dark sweetnesses cooling breath long sweetnesss dark chestnuts and dark coco at its depth… yummmy …

Overnight steeping is a melon sweet sort of ashy taste but distinct melon sweet still.

Few days long steeping of spent leaf is still very sweet tasting!   Melon sweet fresh taste still. Drinking this next to the 2007 Yang Qing Hao Huangshan Toucha - the Huangshan has more oily viscosity and vibrant sweet deeper tastes but it is not as sweet as this Jin Cha.

I can see the appeal of this tuo it has a consistent long sweetness and strong energy surge…. Very satisfying for what it is… it’s got some deeper darkness when pushed…

It is also the most “non-Gushu” (but probably old enough) of the Yang Qing Hao that I’ve tried thus far….but I really like it but am insure if I would go to purchase it…

8th …The leaves are left in the pot for a few days then I give them a flash steeping…creamy talc chalky full feeling sweet finish.  Strong chest beats still.

9th has a bitter sweet fruity medicinal cooling taste with a deep full dense taste.  Full chalky slight sticky pulling feeling.  Big chest beats. Big upward pull and body energy.

10th is a bitter sweet taste full salivating from some throat pulling.  Beats the chest.  Full mouthfeel is chalky slight sticky tight with sweet finish.

11th sweet fruit chalky mouthfeel sweet taste with chalky almost dry gripping cool breath and sweet fruity finish.  The mouthfeel gets slightly dry candy chalky taste.  Big chest beats and body energy.

So strong so flavourful so powerful… so good!

2007 Yang Qing Hao Bitter Brick

I sampled this 2007 Yang Qing Hao Bitterness Brick ($90.00 for 250g cake or $0.36/g) back to back with the 2006 Brick but they are completely different concepts with the 2006 more of a solid blend of lower grade and leftovers at a lower price and 2007 a pure grade of bitter varietals… still low price!

Iron compression very tight brick has dry leaves which have a lemon lime melon sweet odour to them.

Rinsed has a sweet fresh odour.

First infusion has a bitter sweet soapy floral and creamy sweet taste.  Vibrant melon watermelon rinds with soapy floral but creamy and a full taste throughout.  Mouthwatering effect.  Chest opening feeling. Chest and shoulders Qi.  Chest rising into throat sensation with a happy upbeat feeling.

Second infusion has a bitter soapy creamy sweet with bitter long taste.  Big chest body feelings!   Rising into throat.  Cooled down it is bitter long bitter melon rinds with sweet creamy soapy taste.  Big chest beats.

Third infusion has a melon creamy sweet with balanced bitter long taste big chest qi!  Cooled down it has a sweet smooth moderate bitter taste creamy bitter long bitter.  No astringency just straight bitter sweet.

Fourth infusion is left to cool and has a bitter sweet almost coco fruity bready.  Sweet bitter balance with some salivating and bready melon taste.

Fifth infusion is smooth sweet bitter with melon balance full feeling big chest beats and opening. Fresh melon aftertaste.

6th is a creamy full sweet taste with lesser bitter woody taste.

7th is left to cool and is a bitter sweet long bitter woody taste.  Bitter woody with less sweetness now.

8th is sweet woody honey bitter long taste moderate bitter now. Mouthwatering melon rinds.

9th has a sweet bitter woody taste to it.  Brandy woody bitter not as sweet…

Overnight steeping is sweet melon fruity with a mild moderate bitterness that gives it a vibrant refreshing feeling.

If this isn’t Lao Man E then what else could it be? It’s Lao Man E….

2006 Yang Qing Hao Blended Brick

This is the last (4/5g?) sample was from Liquid Proust ordered in 2021ish…

Dry leaves have a sweet dry woody odour.

Rinsed they are a faint sweet woody cardboard.

First infusion has a watery sweet taste as the compression is still quite tight.

Second again is a watery but also creamy sweet taste.   Light creamy sweet with slight dry mouthfeel.  Mild qi so far…

3rd is a creamy sweet pop of fruit taste.  Fruity light with mild dry mouthfeel and throat feel.

4th is a watery sweet taste.  Watery woody slight dry with faint spice and wood notes. Mild relaxing qi slight heavy head.

5th is left to cool and is a creamy watery sweet taste with drying mouthfeel and throat feeling.  Mild relaxing and slight heavy feeling in the body.

6th infusion has a dry woody not as sweet taste.  Mouthfeel and throat feel is the dry gripping type that no one likes. Cooled down is sweet woody watery.

7th cooled down is a woody sweet taste some spice and faint honey caramel dry mouthfeel and throat aren’t my favourite.

8th is left in the cup overnight and is a watery sweet woody not really caramel sugar.

9th is still at flash then left to completely cool down and is  a sweet sugar and almost caramel finishing sweet taste.

10th watery almost fruity sweet initial mild taste.  Sweet mild watery.

Long mug steeping of not that spent leaves is… sweet woody taste.  Dry stored woody.

Overnight infusion is a woody sort of dry woody sweet taste.  Some faint chalky and grassy taste lingering sweet breath.

2024 vs 2023 Tea Encounter YiShanMo Gushus!

Tiago sent me the 2024 Tea Encounter YiShanMo Gushu (approx $160 for 250g cake or $0.64/g) sometime this past Autumn/ Winter and I have been eagerly anticipating trying it when the weather got hot and when the first heatwave of the year hit, I had it in my pot…. But before I did that I sampled Tea Encounter’s 2023 YiShanMo ($83.00 for 200g cake or $0.41/g) first and did a comparison here…. Hahaha….

2023 Tea Encounter Yi Shan Mo

Dry leaves have a very sweet sugar and floral with a faint forestry not quite barnyard but complex high and low odours.

Rinsed leaves have deep forest slight barnyard even less sweet smell.

First infusion has a clear pure forest taste with barnyard Forest nuances as the min taste with a faint sweetness hard to grasp underneath.  Lingering sweet lime on the breath.

Second has a sweet pure watery clear taste with a barnyard forest base and lime then barnyard forest sweet breath.  An airy evolution of taste here.

Third left to cool and is a sweet light watery with deeper barn yard forest taste long profile of elegant airy taste.  Very light in the body Qi… light chest and limbs feeling.

6th is an oily viscus texture mouthfeel with a buttery sweet taste soft evolving sweet tastes of pear and maybe peach…. Mainly pear… light feeling in the body… light limbs. Cooled down it is pear sweet water with mild oily textured mouthwatering taste and chalky sweet forest finish.

7th has a watery buttery oily textured mouthwatering taste with soft transition& to sweet aftertaste mild forest taste. Light airy Qi feeling.

8th is a watery almost woody sweetness it’s becoming a bit insipid with still an airy light limbs qi.

9th is an overnight thermos steeping… it has a smooth watery oily sweet taste chalky feeling underneath no bitterness or astringency at all this session including here in the long steep…

10th day later steeping is oily sweet long fresh chalky oily viscus texture pure sweet vibrant.  Long fresh candy melon…

2024 Tea Encounter Yi Shan Mo Gushu

Dry leaves have a very sweet almost candy odour to them subtle deep forest odours.

Rinsed leaves sweet forest odours.

First infusion is a fresh sweet oily watery mouthwatering taste. So fresh and vibrant with an evolution oily sweet profile and a lime fresh candy aftertaste. Vibrant and bright and sparkling vibrancy.

Second infusion has a banana and tropical fruity taste smooth evolution of sweet taste.  Long candy tropical fruity finish. Clear flavours with a subtle faint forest taste throughout no astringency or bitterness at all fluffy mouthfeel with some oily textured mouthwatering taste.

Third infusion has a very sweet candy buttery vibrant pop of taste.  Smooth creamy buttery feeling and taste with edges of melon and green grapes. Vibrant pops of sweet tastes.  Light chest and mild qi feeling.  Mouthwatering candy breath. Faint sticky mouth.

8th left to cool is a woody slight sour slight sweet smooth chalky a bit oily watery some deep energy buildup with this one…. It gives me energy but never astringent nor bitter at all

9th is a long thermos steeping comes out moderately bitter and woody deeper uplifting moderate energy.

Days long infusion is oily viscus with a woody Forest base  taste with slight bitterness woody.

2023 vs 2024 I liked the 2023 Tea Encounter YiShanMo considerably more.  For its unwavering long evolution of sweetnesses, light airy Qi, and absolutely no signs of bitter astringency. Purity. It would be nice to revisit the 2024 as it thickens in a year or two.

High Again…. 2006 Yang Qing Hao ChaWangShu

I sampled and posted this one before… although my last post on this one has a negative slant on the storage.  It seems to be doing well with longer dry storage and if you can look away from some aspects of the more typical Yang storage (wait but I like Yang Storage awayways) you are really treated to a phenomenal treat in one of the best ChaWangShu qi experiences on the market… this is really what keeps me coming back to this one…. The price is reasonable for what you get in that…

This 2006 Yang Qing Hao ChaWangShu goes for $440.00 for 500g cake or 0.88/g.

Dry leaves have a swampy leaf sweet almost faint floral.

Rinsed leaves have a sweet woody fallen leaf odour.

First infusion has a watery sweet creamy talc sweet emerging sweet layered taste.  Thirst quenching light layered sweet watery taste. Cooled down is a light leafy sweet creamy finish.  Strong qi starts to flutter the mind.

Second very high stoned feeling… do much so I forgot to write some notes…

Third left to cool is a creamy leaf deep sweet layered with an almost sour dry talc and melon sweet creamy chalky full sweet finish…, floating body super stoned feeling tingling limbs face everything.., strong body qi..,

Fourth is a sweet leaf melon layered creamy chalky finish with long lingering melon leaf sweet chalky super high! Everything is high! Floating out of body feeling. So strong qi feeling.

Fifth the next day is sweet melon chalky long sweet taste.  Clear sweet melon with slight leaves.  Deep high floating body feeling.

Sixth infusion has a sweet leaf melon chalky evolving sweet sugar to creamy chalky almost melon.  Nice evolving sweet taste. Face and body tingling and floating big Qi high!

Seventh has a leaf creamy chalky sweet taste almost melon almost sugar chalky throat feeling long sweet evolution deep powerful out of body floating high feeling. Cooled down it is watery creamy sweet leaf and soft chalky slight almost faint bitter woods.  Out of body floating stoned high is still there…

Eighth is left to cool and has a woody sweet almost resin woody sweet. Long sweetness but also woody big chest opening floating feeling. Chalky talc appears even melon in the cooled down liquid.

9th has a woody resin leaf talc chalky taste.  Long sweetness throughout. With resin woody.  Chest opening but qi feeling.

Qi is strong out of body floating euphoria high…. What else can I really say…. It messes you up good…
